Có lẽ chỉ có những người đàn bà đã hơn một lần kinh qua thời kỳ thai nghén và sinh nở mới có thể giúp chúng ta hiểu được thế nào là 9 tháng 10 ngày mang nặng đẻ đau… Trong 9 tháng 10 ngày, ngoài những nôn mửa không ngừng, người đàn bà mang thai thường phải trải qua nhiều tâm trạng khác nhau của vui buồn lẫn lộn…

Vui vì sự sống và niềm hi vọng đang lớn dần trong tâm hồn và thể xác của mình, người đàn bà mang thai cũng lo sợ vì những bất ngờ không lường trước được. Những đột biến trong người cũng khiến cho người đàn bà mang thai cảm nhận được sự mỏng dòn, yếu đuối của con người. Tất cả mọi cử động, chế độ dinh dưỡng đều được cân nhắc cẩn thận để không phương hại đến bào thai… Có nên tiếp tục đi nhanh như trước kia không? Có được hút một điếu thuốc như trước không? Có nên dùng càfê không? Có nên dùng một chút bia rượu không? Có nên thức khuya không?… Tất cả đều được cân nhắc từng li từng tí.

Bào thai càng lớn dần, niềm vui và nỗi lo lắng cũng tăng thêm… Và khi đến ngày nở nhụy khai hoa, như chúa Giêsu đã nhận xét, niềm vui của người đàn bà khỏa lấp được tất cả những chờ đợi trong khi mang thai và những đớn đau trong khi sinh con.

Sự chào đời của hài nhi không những mang lại niềm vui, nhưng cũng đảo lộn cuộc sống trong gia đình. Ðứa bé đã trở thành trung tâm của cuộc sống gia đình. Giờ giấc thay đổi, nhịp sống cũng thay đổi. Và có lẽ cái nhìn cũng đổi mới với mọi người trong nhà.

Mùa Vọng là mùa của thai nghén… Do tiếng “Thưa, xin vâng!” đáp trả của Ðức Tin, chúng ta cũng cưu mang chính Chúa. Như người đàn bà có thể cảm nhận được sự tăng trưởng của bào thai, chúng ta cũng có thể cảm nhận được sự hiển diện mỗi lúc một thêm thân mật và gần gũi của Chúa trong tâm hồn chúng ta.

Cũng như người đàn bà mang thai có thể nhận ra sự mỏng dòn yếu đuối của mình, với sự hiện diện của Chúa trong tâm hồn, chúng ta cũng cảm nhận sâu sắc hơn những bất toàn, khiếm khuyết và tội lỗi của chúng ta. Ý thức ấy càng mời gọi chúng ta bước đi trong từng cố gắng vươn cao hơn. Cũng như người đàn bà mang thai cân nhắc từng đường đi nước bước, từng cách ăn mặc đi đứng, người cưu mang Chúa cũng tập trung tất cả suy tư, hành động, cư xử của mình vào chính Chúa. Lẽ sống là động lực của người có niềm tin chính là Chúa… Bào thai càng lớn lên thì sự quên mình của người mẹ càng gia tăng. Người cưu mang Chúa cũng thế. Thánh Gioan Tẩy Giả đã diễn tả đúng đòi hỏi ấy khi Ngài nói về chúa Giêsu: “Ngài phải lớn lên, còn tôi phải nhỏ lại”… Càng quên mình, người tín hữu Kitô càng cảm nhận được sự hiện diện của Chúa trong tâm hồn. Ðó là định luật của đời sống Ðức Tin. Chính khi quên mình, người Kitô cảm nhận được sự hiện diện của Chúa và càng gặp được chính mình…

Mùa Vọng là mùa của thai nghén: chúng ta hãy chuẩn bị cho Chúa Giêsu một máng cỏ trong tâm hồn chúng ta. Cũng như người đàn bà quên mình vì không biết bao nhiêu chuẩn bị cho con, chúng ta cũng hãy hưởng trọn cuộc sống của chúng ta về với Chúa Giêsu. Hãy để cho Ngài lớn lên bằng những nhỏ lại của chúng ta: nhỏ lại trong tham vọng, nhỏ lại trong những ước muốn bất chính, nhỏ lại trong những đố kỵ, ghen ghét, ích kỷ, nhỏ lại trong muôn vàn những đớn hèn, nhỏ nhặt trong cuộc sống… Và rồi, với Chúa ngự trị trong ta, tình mến sẽ lớn mãi trong trái tim.
